Each spring, the Fort Edward Historical Association invites graduating seniors to submit original works for our Student Art Show and Competition. Students must live in Warren, Washington, Essex, or Northern Saratoga Counties and intend to major in a fine arts program.
Congratulations to our 2026 Award winners!
$100— Guild of Adirondak Artists founded in 1973 by a group of well-respected artists in the Glens Falls Region of the lower Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. The membership consists of artists who wish to share in exhibitions and encourage high standards for works of art while strengthening the rapport between artists and our community.

$200— Joyce Clary The last member of the Art Center, who has participated in almost all the Award Programs throughout it’s history. This award is given in her honor.

$250—Degroot/Troeber Award Frances Orr DeGroot a founding member of the Fort Edward Art Center, Frances taught painting classes at the Art Center for years. She and her husband lived on a beautiful farm on the banks of the Hudson River, below the Village of Fort Edward. Fan Troeber a very skilled oil painter, she was likely the longest active member of the Fort Edward Art Center, having joined in the early 1960’s. Fan can be credited with keeping the organization viable until it merged with the Fort Edward Historical Association.

$250—Fort Edward Lions Club founded in 1939, the Lions Clube undertook many projects over the years to fund various community projects. In 2014 the Lions Club decided to suspend its charter due to declining membership. With its remaining funds the organization established the Fort Edward Lions Club Art Scholarship Award.

$500—Frances Ryan Sullivan and James C. Sullivan two individuals who truly loved Fort Edward and its inhabitants. The Ryan/Sullivan scholarship is given in their memory.
Awarded to: Lily Heckman
$500—Jean N. Hill a founding member of the Fort Edward Art Center, Jean was active within the organization during the 1950s. She was the daughter of noted Fort Edward Historian William H. Hill and his wife Elsie N. Hill.
Awarded to: Eleanor Paigo
$1250—Alfred Z. Solomon a retired New York City milliner who owned and operated a business call “Madcaps.” In the 1940’s he and his wife acquired the Sidney Berry farm on the Hudson River, renaming it “Madcaps Farm.” Upon his death, Mr. Solomon had no surviving family, so by his will, he established the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust which has insured this prize in his honor.
